Victory Gardens

As I plant my own vegetables and herbs this year, I am reminded of the old posters of the Victory Gardens that citizens were encouraged to grow during WWII. The images are some of my favorite vintage art even though they portray a time of unrest in the world; they also recall a time of great patriotism. The US School Garden Program also had amazing images of children in the garden. I have many vintage photographs of my grandmother in overalls with a scarf tied around her hair, so the first image reminds me so much of her. She was in her early to mid twenties during WWII and is a wealth of information regarding that era.

And thanks to people like my grandparents, we live in a time when we may garden simply for pure pleasure. I am grateful.

I think you may have missed some of my best stories so I am excited for you to get caught up on them...just don't take your sunshine time to read them unless you have a portable lap top. I don't so I sit here in the Ultra Lounge as we call it and type away. I haven't been posting since my birthday because I have been busy with my daughter and her fiance being here right after my birthday. My birthday was great...Michael and our friend Merle built a fence behind our little pond in the back of the yard so that he can have all his building bricks and junk back there and out of sight and and it gives him an extra room and me a clean sight line...nothing like seeing men work on a project you have help inspire on your birthday...I cooked the dinner for them..for my birthday and it couldn't have been happier. We always have to kill ourselves before we have company! xx

I went back to Feb 14 on your blog and that is when I wrote that the answer is not no to a baby it just wasn't the time yet but it would be soon...and that I get feelings about these things. And honestly I was having the feeling about it the past couple of weeks!
